Understanding the consequences of underage DUI charges

For parents, life can be tough for different reasons. Likewise, teens and young adults also face many pressures and challenges in their lives, such as stress related to school, peer pressure and so on. Sometimes, those under the age of 21 find themselves behind the wheel with alcohol in their system. Even a very small amount of alcohol in an underage driver’s system can lead to charges and this can be devastating for parents as well as their kids. Many parents and young drivers wonder how they will deal with underage DUI charges, and it is imperative to approach these cases carefully since so many consequences may follow.

First of all, DUI charges can lead to financial penalties, the loss of driving privileges, time behind bars (depending on the details of the case) and many other penalties. Outside of the courtroom, there are many other consequences which may arise due to drunk driving charges, especially for drivers who are under the age of 21. For example, those charged with underage DUI may notice that their relationships with friends and family members are negatively affected by their case. Or, they may encounter problems related to applying for or attending college.

Unfortunately, DUI charges can shatter someone’s life, which can be especially difficult for a young person with their whole future ahead of them. When someone under the age of 21 is charged with drunk driving, they may feel the effects of the charges for years to come. For example, they may be unable to apply for a certain job or they suffer from a career standpoint in other ways.
